A PEFA Flagship Training jointly organized by Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and Expertise France and led by PEFA Secretariat took place in Abidjan from September 30 to October 4, 2024. Delivered entirely in French, the session was attended by 32 participants. It was launched with opening remarks by Adrien Haye, Director of the AFD office in Ivory Coast, Cassilde Brenière, Deputy CEO in charge of Operations at Expertise France, Marc Buchmann, Head of the Cooperation of the European Union in Ivory Coast, as well as a video message from Srinivas Gurazada, Head of PEFA Secretariat. All those distinguished speakers highlighted the importance of the francophone world in promoting sound public financial management (PFM) reforms.

The four-day program was attended by 32 French-speaking participants from various countries across francophone Africa, all of whom had a background in PFM. Following an introduction by our AFD partners, PEFA Secretariat member Jean-Philippe Vion and PEFA Secretariat expert Jean-Marc Philip gave a detailed overview of the wide range of PEFA products and processes available to date, including the PEFA 2016 Flagship framework and the Gender and Climate supplementary frameworks, and led practical exercises and interactive discussions.
Many French-speaking countries have conducted PEFA assessments over the past few years, including Morocco, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and more. In his message, Srinivas Gurazada, Head of PEFA Secretariat, welcomed this strong activity in the francophone world and emphasized the importance of training more assessors to keep up with demand in these countries.
This seminar was a useful addition to the wide range of francophone PEFA products and resources already available on the PEFA website, which includes French versions of our flagship framework and guidance manuals, as well as a newly introduced online self-paced training session open to all French-speaking PFM practitioners.
PEFA Secretariat would like to thank all participants for coming to Abidjan to follow the PEFA Training, as well as the AFD and Expertise France teams, including the organizing team in Abidjan, for hosting this important event.
