The Municipality of Teresina in Brazil completed a PEFA assessment in 2014. It is now working with the World Bank to use the assessment results as an input to the policy dialogue on improving practices in budget, finance, and accounting.

The PEFA report identified the strengths and weaknesses of public financial management (PFM) and is being used to guide future reforms at the municipal level. At the recent meeting with the authorities of the Municipality of Teresina, the World Bank presented the experiences of other Brazilian municipalities in reforming public financial management and proposed a series of knowledge exchange initiatives among the Brazilian municipalities to strengthen their PFM.
