Mobilizing finance is one side of the development coin. Effective, efficient and accountable use of those funds is the other. The side event to the International Conference on Financing for Development held at the Elilly International Hotel, Addis Ababa, sought to emphasize the importance of improving public expenditure efficiency, effectiveness and accountability as a means to improve policy implementation and facilitate achievement of SDGs. Improving public sector efficiency by 10 percent could release $250 billion for the development challenge.

Leading practitioners on public financial management reform from government and international organizations provided insights on how to assess PFM performance, how to achieve improvements and monitor progress towards desired goals.
